Yes/No forecasts for contrail formation depend on the flight altitudes in reference to contrail layers derived from atmospheric soundings (grey bars in Figure B). Atmospheric temperature (ºC), dewpoint temperature (ºC), relative humidity (%), mixing ratio (g/kg), critical temperatures as threshold for contrail formation (ºC) are interpolated for flight altitudes/times between surrounding sounding levels and between sounding times.
